May 2010 - Austin Heroes vs. Dobie Heroes Annual End of Year Soccer match! Launch Pad celebrated its third annual indoor soccer event against the Austin Police Department. For the third school year in a row, APD Chief Art Acevedo made time from his very busy schedule to go toe-to-toe against some of Dobie Middle Schools exceptional athletes and interact with the students. Launch Pad students who have worked diligently throughout the school year to improve their attendance, behavior and grades were exempted from morning classes to particiapte in the soccer event. We use this end of year event to show the students that with hard work and improvement comes great reward and fun! We were also joined by the new APD District Commander, Sergeant Holland. Fortunately for LP students, they experieced a big win over the APD in the match. Local news 8 covered the event and our program. Launch Pad co founder and Executive Director David Contreras thanks Chief Acevedo and the ADP for their continued support in the first picture below!

May 2010 - LaunchPad adds music, a new element to the class to help students express their creative side! With a newly welcomed addition to LP volunteer team, Polo Jaimes brings one of his many talents to the after school program. A successful businessman and gifted musician, Polo brought instruments and music to one of our after school classes to demonstrate to the students and allow them to experience thier creative expression. The experience was an instant hit for the students as several of them discovered a new love for music! This will be an added feature to the LP after school program.
Launch Pad held its first ever Christmas Outreach Program sponsoring the youth in the LP After School Program and their entire families. Each child in the home under the age of 18 received Christmas presents and the family received a full Christmas meal. Over 70 children were sponsored. Our team personally delivered presents and food to each home making a great impact on each family sponsored. Our great volunteers made it possible for us to execute and deliver our first Christmas program with tremendous success! Thank you Launch Pad partners and volunteers for your generous contributions.
The students, school administrators and educators were extremely excited to have such a high ranking government official visiting their campus. The LP after-school program students along with the AVID student program participants (college prep) were in attendance to hear about the U.S Treasurer‘s job experience and personal story. The U.S Treasurer spoke openly about her early years of poverty and struggle to assist her family in paying the bills. It was only because of the persistence of a high school teacher who had to convince her parents that an opportunity to attend college was the right direction to take for this promising high school student. The students were captivated when hearing that someone in this powerful position would take the time to come visit them and identify with many of those in attendance. The inspirational story of the Treasurer’s climb to success taking perseverance, education, sacrifice and a strong work ethic, gave hope to the students that dreams can come true.
