Once again LaunchPad (LP) students’ used the summer to learn how to give- back and serve their community. Our LP Community Serve Program is part of our overall Summer Outreach and is geared towards encouraging students despite their own personal need, to serve others in need. LP students served up to 300 community residents with food distribution at the St. John’s Community Center, a partnership with the Austin Food Bank.
One of the great benefits of this program is to see how our at-risk students feel empowered when they are given their job duties. They take initiative to do a great job and feel good about themselves and the work they have accomplished by serving others. Lupe Jimenez a community worker for the City at the St. Johns Community Center congratulated our team for our service with a ‘City of Austin volunteer certificate’. LP Students can use this towards volunteer school credit and on thier summmer job resume for the future.
